after the end of apartheid when newly elected president
Nelson Mandela used the 1995 World Cup rugby matches
to unite his people in South Africa.
Morgan Freeman
gave a wonderful performance portraying Mandela.
I learned about
the heart of this thoughtful and beautiful man....Nelson Mandela.
Matt Damon, as captain of the rugby team,
gives an impressive believable performance.
-
The following Victorian
poem, sustained Mandela for thirty years, while imprisoned
under apartheid.
-
Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstances
I have not winced or cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
-
I thought as I watched this film.....how true
it is that a man with the right motives and vision for the good....
can unite people and give them hope.
-
Try to see this, you'll shed tears of joy!
